Dry spell grass growth

Martin Merrick writing in the [tag] Irish Farmers Journal has advice for managing grass during the current dry spell.

👉Farmers on drier soils should be especially mindful of their grassland management in the next few weeks with continued dry weather expected👉While grass is still growing well farmers should keep up to date with fertiliser application to prevent stressing the plant

👉Average farm cover should not dip below 550kg DM/ha for any farm enterprise or 150kg DM/LU

Silage wrap prices

With silage season in full swing, silage wrap is trading around €110-€118 per roll (including VAT and levies) depending on the brand and location across the country, according to the [tag] Irish Farmers Journal.

This is down slightly on this time last year when it was trading at approx. €115-€120/roll but this year’s prices are still reflective of the big jump in prices from 2021 into 2022, when the price of a roll went up more than 30%.
